We are the Dutch node of EC funded "Research and Training Network" (Fifth Framework Program) called Galois theory and explicit methods in arithmetic. Activities start in 2000, and we host a conference in Leiden in 2002.
Seminars
- This semester we started a local Leiden number theory seminar. First meeting: February 12.
- This year the Intercity Number Theory Seminar has a joint program with the algebraic geometry seminar. We meet every other week in various locations in the Netherlands. The program of the last semester and of the last few years is still available.
News and announcements
- The years 2001-2003 will see Hungarian - Dutch scientific co-operation in number theory sponsored by NWO. There will be a workshop in Debrecen October 22-26, 2001 devoted to effective methods for Diophantine equations.
- Martine Girard started a postdoc position in January 2001 funded by the GTEM network.
- Hendrik Lenstra was awarded a Spinoza grant from NWO in 1999.
- Nils Bruin finished his Ph.D. in the fall of 1999. He spends the fall of 2000 at MSRI.
- Ed Schaefer of Santa Clara University was in Leiden in the spring semester of 1999. He gave a series of lectures in the intercity number theory seminar.
- Chistiaan van de Woestijne started as an AIO of Lenstra on March 1, 1999.
- Richard Groenewegen started as an AIO (=PhD student) of Lenstra on February 1, 1999.
- Some other activities in number theory are coordinated through the Stieltjes pages. A more formal description of the Stieltjes research program in number theory is also available.
Past events
- Fall 2000: Algorithmic Number Theory at MSRI in Berkeley, California. Organizers: Joe Buhler, Cynthia Dwork, Hendrik Lenstra, Andrew Odlyzko, Bjorn Poonen, and Noriko Yui
- July 2000: the fourth ANTS-conference took place in Leiden.
- April 2000: Kloosterman Centennial Celebration
- A workshop with the title Advances in Number Theory was held at the The Lorentz Center in Leiden in the period of April 12-23, 1999
