Postdocs
dr. D. R. Pik per February 1, 2001 with group Differential Equations:
``I am a post-doc in mathematics at the Mathematical Institute in the research group of prof. Sjoerd Verduyn-Lunel. In June of 1999 I graduated at the Vrije Universiteit on a thesis titled: Block Lower Triangular Operators and Optimal Contractive Systems. My current research interest concerns the characterization of properties of differential delay equations through numerical approximation. I am also the managing editor of the Nieuw Archief voor Wiskunde. The journal goes to about 2,000 subscribers in the Netherlands, and it aims at an audience of professional mathematicians. I live in Amstelveen and have three children.''
dr. F. Ding per March 1, 2001 with group Geometry and Topology :
``My name is Fan Ding. I am from China. I got my PhD at Zhejiang University, China and worked at Peking University, China. I am now a postdoctor of Professor Geiges. My research area is Geometry and Topology. I am interested in contact topology, 3- and 4-manifold theory, knot theory. My favorite sport is table-tennis. You can contact me if you would like to play table-tennis.''
Ph.D. students
drs. S. Tengely per February 1, 2001 with prof. dr. R. Tijdeman, in the framework of an exchange program (NWO-OTKA project, OTKA is the Hungarian scientific research fund) between scientists in number theory from Hungary and from the Netherlands sponsored by NWO:
``I got my master degree as a mathematician at Kossuth Lajos University of Debrecen in 1999. Now I'm a PhD student of Prof. Robert Tijdeman. I am interested in Diophantine equations. I am working on discrete tomography too. My hobby is playing chess. I have been playing chess more than ten years. I have a FIDE rating (~2200).''
drs. M.V.S. Frasson per February 1, 2001 with prof. Dr. Sjoerd Verduyn Lunel:
``My name is Miguel Vinícius. I'm from Brazil. I did my undergaduate studies and get my Master degree in the University of São Paulo, in São Carlos. I'm working with Prof. Sjoerd Verduyn Lunel, in Differential Equations. As a hobby, I maintain a TeX site (in Portuguese). Now I'm trying to learn Dutch and to improve my English and Spanish.''
